Fundraising Letter for ICCF

What Is So Important To These 1,470 Doctors?

           Dear Donor,

     The answer…it is the life-saving work of the Israel Children’s Cancer Foundation.  These contributing doctors are not alone.  Joining them are twenty-five members of ICCF’s Medical Advisory Board.  This board consists of some of the most distinguished and prominent members of the pediatric oncology and hematology community in the United States and Israel.

     I want to tell you about a young boy named Moshe from Ofakim.  Last year he ran, jumped, and played in his neighborhood streets.  Today, at six years old Moshe is victim to acute lymphocytic leukemia.  He awaits a much – needed bone marrow transplant.  This procedure is his only means of survival.

     That is why I am writing to you today.  Moshe needs this transplant now.  His survival may well depend on how quickly you act.  Fortunately, through your generosity, the hospitals and medical centers supported by ICCF will be able to perform this life-saving procedure.

     In Israel, Moshe has company in his battle against cancer.

·        One in every 330 children, including teenagers, develops cancer before the age of 20.

·        The average age of diagnosis is six.

·        Currently, approximately 500 Israeli children are diagnosed with cancer each year.

·        Today, 1400 children are receiving treatment.

     The most prevalent types of cancer in children are leukemia, brain tumors, bone cancers, neuroblastomas, and lymphomas.  Childhood cancer, which touches the lives of almost every family, continues to be the number one disease killer of Israeli children.  Unfortunately, it is on the rise.

     The Israel Children’s Cancer Foundation is the ONLY organization providing funding directly to Israeli hospitals and medical centers as part of our commitment to winning the war against childhood cancer.

     This year the ICCF will award over one million dollars in grants to fund pediatric cancer treatment at six of Israel’s most prestigious hospitals and medical centers that geographically cover the entire country:

Dana Children’s Hospital in Tel Aviv;

Hadassah University Hospital in Jerusalem;

Rambam Medical Center in Haifa;

Schneider Children’s Medical Center of Israel in Petach Tikva;

Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer; and

Soroka University Medical Center in Beersheba.

     These medical institutions treat over 93% of the more than 1400 Israeli children stricken with cancer.  Every dollar of these grants comes from the generosity of people like you.

     Dr. Isaac Yaniv, director of the pediatric oncology department at Schneider, told me, “[A] cure is not enough.  We have to make sure that our cancer survivors have good quality of life.”

     Therefore, our work continues.  Israeli children die daily from this dreaded disease.  We must save these children and spare parents the agony of watching their children suffer.  You can provide a “ray of hope” to these suffering children and their families.

     I’m sure you feel as I do, that Israel’s greatest hope for the future is its children.  They are the nation’s greatest treasure.  You can preserve that treasure and give the children of Israel a chance to survive and thrive with your donation today.

     You have the opportunity through your generosity to bring a “ray of hope” into the lives of these unfortunate victims.  Please help us help them by sending in your contribution today.  Moshe and the hundreds of other cancer stricken Israeli children will be forever grateful to you for your generosity.

     Passover, the Festival of Freedom, is upon us.  I trust you will grace us once again with a generous gift so that we can continue in our pursuit of helping these children achieve “freedom” from cancer.  When you gather with your loved ones at the Seder table, look into the eyes of the children and give thanks for their health.  Imagine the satisfaction and good feeling you will have knowing hundreds of Israeli children will be grateful to you forever for your gift.

                                                      Sincerely,

                                                      Harold N. Blond

                                                      President
